Mattress Sizes

When it comes to choosing your new mattress, size does matter.

Choosing the right mattress size is just as important as choosing your mattress comfort and construction. Being cramped and crowded in a bed that is too small can seriously impact your sleep comfort and quality.

Unfortunately, most people tend to purchase a new mattress that matches their current bed size without giving much consideration to the benefits of a larger size.

Sizes are approximate and may vary by +/- 1/2″. Size availability varies by product. Mattress heights vary by product and are not listed here; see “Specifications” section of individual products for height details.

Twin

Dimensions: 38 inches x 75 inches

Built for one, a Twin size mattress is ideal for smaller children that are too big for a toddler bed but not really big enough to warrant a larger, full sized bed. They are also a favorite for dorms rooms, smaller guest spaces, bunk beds, and daybeds.

Twin XL

Dimensions: 38 inches x 80 inches

While a Twin XL is still a single occupancy mattress, it is a better fit for taller youths and adults because it offers 5 more inches in length. It is the same length as a Queen or King mattress – in fact, two Twin XL mattresses side-by-side equal one King sized mattress.

Full

Dimensions: 54 inches x 75 inches

The Full size mattress was originally designed for two but has evolved into more of a single’s favorite. This size is great for kids as they get older and have outgrown the smaller twin size. This one could also be a great fit if you are living alone or have limited floor space.

Full XL

Dimensions: 54 inches x 80 inches

The Full XL mattress is 5 inches longer than a standard Full mattress.  They are very rarely chosen and typically must be special ordered.  They are best suited for a tall, single adult with very limited space.

Queen

Dimensions: 60 inches x 80 inches

The Queen size mattress is the most popular option for two people. Couples who are looking for an even balance of space and price will usually choose a Queen. While ideally suited for couples it is also great option for singles who like their space or have pets!

King

Dimensions: 76 inches x 80 inches

The King size mattress absolute heaven for those couples who want a little extra elbow room! That extra 16″ in width makes a world of difference.  It is also ideal for couples with different sleep preferences as they can each choose a different Twin XL mattress, put it on adjustable base and have one, completely customized, King sized bed that they both love!

California King

Dimensions: 72 inches x 84 inches
The California King whacks 4 inches off the sides of a standard King and sticks it on the bottom for 4 inches of added length.  It’s obviously a great solution for taller people but, the family dog that sleeps at the foot of the bed will love it too!  These are rarely in stock and will need to be special ordered.

Rule of Thumb:

Choose the largest mattress that your budget and room can accommodate.  This is one time when “bigger IS better!  You will thank yourself later!
